Czarmyne (pronounced Charmaine) came to Smarty Pants in 2022 with a natural curiosity for people, a passion for diversity and a wealth of project management experience. Smarty Pants was thrilled to add her to our growing team as a Research Prodigy. Her thirst for knowledge and insights spans all forms of research, making her an excellent addition to every project she works on. From qualitative community design and moderating to recruit management and quantitative data analysis, Czarmyne is a Jill of all trades – a gifted writer, thinker and doer who breathes life into fieldwork and findings.

Czarmyne is an honors graduate of California State University, Long Beach, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and was a member of Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology. She remains a mentor to current undergraduate students.

As she obtained her degree, Czarmyne also served as a research assistant responsible for meta-analysis coding at the university’s Wax Lab – an interdisciplinary lab that investigates workplace diversity issues. Her role provided her with a lengthy list of interests and experiences in academic research, including special populations, situation awareness, usability, accessibility and the experience of marginalized communities as consumers and employees.

Following her undergraduate studies, Czarmyne held a Usability Testing and Instructional Design internship at SkillsCommons – a free and open online library containing learning materials and program support materials for workforce development. She developed wireframes, populated resource pages, conducted usability screening, and audited and optimized the site’s navigational hierarchy and functionality.

Czarmyne began her professional career in the gaming industry. At the Southern California Card Room, she provided support to the Director of Gaming Operations and various management teams. Her role included collecting, aggregating and maintaining confidentiality of proprietary company and player data, as well as providing financial and asset security, and documenting operations for Department of Justice compliance. How’s that for high stakes?

Leveraging her love of details and her administrative and legal experience, Czarmyne went on to work as a real estate closing specialist. She played a critical communications and documentation role at the nexus of home buyers, agents, loan officers, attorneys and compliance professionals. It is here that she expanded her skillset in managing complex projects and disparate stakeholders.

As a qual-leaning Research Prodigy, Czarmyne now applies her talents and experience to key healthcare initiatives at Smarty Pants.  One of her most fascinating projects to date has been an investigation into health disparities among Asian American consumers. The seminal work taps her passion for inclusion and equity, commitment to community health, and ability to manage complex research.

Born and raised in Southern California, Czarmyne resides in Long Beach, CA. She loves to take advantage of LA-adjacent living by going to concerts, movie screenings, and checking out the hottest new dining spots.
