Michelle Poris, Ph.D.

Quant Savant

  • Serves as Smarty Pants’ Quant Savant, a name truly fitting for our resident doctor
  • Leads custom and syndicated quantitative research initiatives at Smarty Pants
  • Has nearly 20 years of research experience, including over 12 years of designing and executing business-building research for many of the world’s largest corporations
  • Prior to joining Smarty Pants, was the Senior Director of Quantitative Research at Just Kid Inc., where she spent six years building and leading the firm’s quantitative research practice
  • Served as a Director at Yankelovich, managing the Yankelovich Youth MONITOR – a tracking study of kids’ attitudes and values
  • Studied issues of child care and work-personal life balance at the non-profit Families and Work Institute
  • Is equally comfortable presenting research to senior executives, conference participants, and academic audiences
  • Was an invited speaker at the White House Conference on Generation Y: “Exploring the Digital Generation”
  • Participated in a panel on youth sports with Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner at the Arena Football League/Sports Illustrated for Kids Youth Sports Huddle
  • Earned a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from the University of Michigan and a B.S. in Human Development from Cornell University…uh, can we say smarty pants!?
Fun Facts about Michelle
  • Lives in Connecticut in a house full of boys (her husband and two sons, age 8 and 3)
  • Loves to read, with a special place in her heart for middle-grade and teen fiction. Recent favorites include the Hunger Games series, When You Reach Me, Jellicoe Road, and anything by John Green, but her all-time favorite is A Tree Grows in Brooklyn
  • Harbors a not-so-secret dream to write her own children’s books
  • Has rekindled a love for Star Wars, now that she lives and breathes it with her 7- year-old
  • Can’t handle any pet larger than a fish
  • Is fighting a losing battle against weeds in an ongoing effort to maintain an organic vegetable garden
  • Has three favorite places in the world, besides home: Australia (where she studied abroad while in college), Italy (where she honeymooned 10 years ago), and South Korea (where her younger son was born)
